Fannin county is rich in history! Located in Northeast Texas and on the Oklahoma Border. Bonham, the county seat, is about 55 miles northeast of Dallas .
Bonham was settled in 1837 when Bailey Inglish built a two story log fort, Fort Inglish (a replica stands at Fort Inglish park). The community was called Bois D'Arc until 1843 when it was named "Bonham" to honor James Butler Bonham, hero of the Alamo.
Bonham is also home to the Sam Rayburn Library and The Sam Rayburn House Museum. Sam Rayburn was considered one of the country's most influential and powerful Speakers of the House.He was personal friends with LBJ and was one of the most visible Texan's in the US Government. His library has memorbilia from the office he maintained in Washington. The Sam Rayburn House has his personal belongings.
